WordPress is one the most popular CMS. One of the main reasons behind this is, even a non-technical user can create and maintain a professional website.
However, in one of its latest update WordPress 5.5, many users found that:
-Their homepage is broken.
-Themes are not able to handle pagination.
-Many functionalities in admin is not working.
As per the survey millions of the websites has been broken. Naturally many users assumed that WordPress has rolled out updated version with glitches.
But let me tell you, this was intended to happen when they rolled out the update.
How? Let’s understand.
Many users are facing JavaScript Errors in WordPress 5.5.
Let me assure you, there is no JavaScript error in WordPress 5.5 and problem is not because of the recent update of WordPress. The problem is with those who have skipped several updates of themes and plugins and are using much older versions.
– jQuery Migrate, which acted like a bridge for older codes to function on WordPress, has been removed from WordPress 5.5.
– The word “page” is being used by the themes, with additional values that are non-numerical.
Many feel that there is Pagination bug in the update.
(Pagination is a reference used to mention the navigational page numbers at the base of a multi-page result. It describes the navigational structure of a site. It permits website guests to discover site pages somewhere top or bottom of a webpage.)
What’s happening here is that, there is a conflict in the use of the word “page.”
– WordPress uses it for pagination but only with a numerical value but some of the themes accept alphanumeric values.
– So, a clash is caused in the value of “page”, due to which we find errors on our page.
Now that we have understood what the problem is, let’s not waste any time and dive straight to the solution!!
STEP 1: UPDATE OR REMOVE OLD THEMES AND PLUGINS:
– You can update the old theme and plugins to your website or if older plugins are abandoned then remove it to resolve these bugs.
– This is one of the best and proper ways to resolve the bug and additional benefits is it will increase the security of your website as old theme and plugins can be the reason for hacking.
STEP 2: INSTALL JQUERY MIGRATE HELPER:
– A plugin has been released by WordPress that restores the jQuery Migrate JavaScript library and restores all the functionalities of the website.
– After installing this plugin you will receive warnings regarding your old code on your WordPress admin dashboard.
– However these warnings will not be visible to front users. Moreover it will help you to figure out which codes need to be replaced.
And Congratulations! You have successfully solved your issue with WordPress 5.5!!!
Now you can carry on with your work without having to worry about the issues.
But Yes! There is one thing you should take care of. DO NOT SKIP UPDATES, as WordPress will keep updating and upgrading. But if you do not maintain your website with the latest updates, some similar issues may keep happening with you on particular intervals.
So, KEEP UPDATING AND MAINTAINING your website.
