The release of WordPress 6.0 is just around the corner.
WordPress 6.0 Beta was published a few days ago, and the final version is scheduled for May 24th, 2022.
It will be the year’s second big release, featuring lots of new features and enhancements.
We’ll give you a sneak peek into what’s coming in WordPress 6.0 in this article.
WordPress 6.0 Features and Improvements
Full Site Editing Improvements in WordPress 6.0
You can design your WordPress themes using the same block editor that you use to create articles and pages with full site editing.
Your theme templates can be changed site-wide and visually edited with blocks.
This functionality requires a block-enabled theme that supports this feature
Easily Switch Theme Styles
With WordPress 6.0, users will be able to swap theme styles with a single click.
To see available styles in your theme, click the Style button in the upper right corner and then move to the Browse Styles page.
This enables theme designers to include many styles presets in their themes that users may switch between simply.

Export Your WordPress Block Theme
Build your own templates, customize styles, and create gorgeous layouts with the new Theme Editor (Full Site Editor).
Want to copy them all to a different WordPress site?
WordPress 6.0 makes it simple to export your theme with all of your changes
You may then use this theme on any other WordPress website, and it will reflect all of the changes you made to the original theme.

New Blocks in Block Theme Editor
The following new blocks will be available in WordPress 6.0, which you can use in your theme and templates.
Comments –
You can add comments to the search loop block. It includes sub-blocks such as comment author name, avatar, comment content, edit link, and others. To make your comments stand out, you can edit them separately.

While WordPress 5.9’s Excerpt block allowed you to simply insert the text you wanted to use for ‘Read more,’ WordPress 6.0 will include a dedicated block. This way, you may customize the link’s text, background, and border to make it stand out more.

No results in Query Loop –
You can now include the No Results block when creating a Query Loop block. The block will only appear if your chosen query gives no results.

Author Biography –
Along with the Post Author and Avatar blocks, a new post-author biography block is also available.

Avatar –
You can use the avatar block to show a user’s avatar (profile photo). You can also choose whether to show the avatar of a specific user or the avatar of the current post/page author.

Block Editor Enhancements
Block editors are getting some exciting advanced features with WordPress 6.0 that will make them even more useful for website owners.
The following are some of the most significant changes:
Change layout in WordPress 6 Update
You can customize how the content appears on various screen sizes. To do so, choose either a row or a stack as your block’s layout. By choosing multiple blocks, you can apply the layout to them.

Add border
By placing a border around the columns block, you can give it a more personalized and professional appearance.

Add space between images
Adjusting the space between individual images inside a gallery block is now simple.

Lock blocks
You can now lock your reusable blocks so that they can’t be edited by other users. Simply pick the Lock option from the drop-down menu under the ‘More’ Icon to do this.

Featured Image in Cover Block
Do you want to use the featured image in the cover block for a post?
With WordPress 6.0, you can choose a featured picture for a cover block, and it will display the featured image from the current post/page.

Responsive Group and Row Blocks
You may change how blocks behave on different screen widths with WordPress 6.0.
You can display the blocks inside group blocks as a row or a stack.

Accessibility Improvements in WordPress 6.0
Each new WordPress release improves usability by making the platform more accessible to users.
Some of the more important accessibility enhancements are listed below.
- If no alternative ALT text is provided, the post title will be used as the ALT text for featured photos.
- Better tabbing in placeholder elements blocks.
- Search announcement in block search.
- On smaller displays, screen readers will be able to read the text labels in the admin bar.
